Motivational Monday: I Think I Can, I Think I Can...
Positivity is motivating!
I recently signed up for Candy Haven's Fast Draft & Revision Hell class. And while my goal was not to finish a first draft in two weeks (I've been planning Unbroken too long to fly through the writing of it that fast :) ), I did want to explore ways to help me write faster, even if it meant more revising and polishing later. I kept feeling stuck because it would take days to perfect a scene, only to move forward and realize I needed to change those previously "perfect" scenes over and over.
I have to admit, fear is a huge deterrent for me in moving forward with any WIP. All those doubts, that "what if you can't do it?" internal monologue, hamper my progress. And Haven's class works on that kind of negativity slowing you down. Here's what she says:
What we tell ourselves in our minds affects how we write. Being positive about our personal writing process, our skill, our progress helps us move forward. We have to choose: will I be positive, or will I allow the negative to mire me in the mud?

"The first thing you have to do is say, 'I'm
going to make this work for me.' You have to throw out all those preconceived
notions about how fast you write. This is different. NEGATIVITY in any form is
not allowed. Let go of the past and move forward with your writing. We are
thinking positive. We are thinking how cool it will when we have a first draft
done in just two weeks."
